Some like it hot. Some like it cold.

Some just like it.

A lot.

There’s no denying it, Wichita Falls loves its coffee. That’s evident in the sheer number of places you can get it. Every restaurant serves it. Almost every fast food place brews it. And then there are dedicated Coffee Shops. Let’s take a look at a few places to go for the Best Coffee In Wichita Falls.

If you’re in a hurry, there’s a McDonalds, Whataburger, or any number of other fast food places with drive-thru windows ready to feed your habit. And while the supermarket might not be the first place that comes to mind when you want a cup of coffee, Market Street has Peet’s Coffee and Tea. You can sit down and chat with a friend you bumped into at the market, or just take a break before you get serious about restocking your pantry.

There’s also Bahama Bucks. While they’re known more for their frozen drinks, they also serve up a pretty tasty cappuccino or latte. You can get it to go, or hang out at the picnic tables and enjoy your coffee with friends. Which brings me to my next point, coffee isn’t all about caffeine intake, it’s also about socializing, so let’s focus on those places where you can sit down and visit while you sip.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard of Starbucks. While there are a couple places serving Starbucks coffee, the only actual Starbucks franchise in Wichita Falls is at the corner of Kemp and Kell. Starbucks is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary and going strong. At least the one in Wichita Falls is. There’s almost always a line of cars for the drive-thru, and when you go inside there will usually be a couple people in front of you. But don’t worry, because unless there’s a real newbie in line, it moves pretty fast. Starbucks has built their brand on being a place to hang out, visit with friends, even surf the web with their free wi-fi service and you’re pretty sure to get pulled into a conversation with someone while you’re there.

Books and coffee go well together too, that’s probably why book chains like Books A Million and Hastings have coffee shops. At Books A Million it’s Joe Muggs. When you’re meeting someone at the mall, this is the perfect spot to find each other. You can grab a cup of “Joe” and read a book or magazine while you wait, or sit and visit in their comfy chairs before you catch a flick at the cinema.

Over at Hastings they’ve got the Hardback Coffee Café. Aside from being a great place to grab a tasty drink, it’s also a great place for a first date or a small committee meeting. It’s easy to find, the service is second to none, you can bring your laptop and surf the internet, they have plenty of specials and there’s no shortage of books and magazines to read or people to watch.

So far we’ve been talking about national chains, but there are a couple of local Wichita Falls businesses catering to the coffee fans, too.

Espressos 2 Go is a great little shop in the lobby of the Hamilton building at 900 8th Street, downtown. From just a nice, simple cup of coffee to Caramel Macchiatos or German Chocolate Lattes (a.k.a. Heaven In A Cup), they can fix you up. Espressos 2 Go doesn’t have a lot of space to sit and visit, but just outside the Hamilton building are several small picnic tables in a pleasantly shaded little mini-park. As far as I could tell, they don’t have a website, so  just give them a call at 940.687.6133. Espressos 2 Go can also provide coffee for your events. In fact, I learned about them when they provided the coffee for a function at Brad Jensen’s Art Gallery at 600 8th Street inside the old Holt Hotel.

Not too far from Espressos 2 Go is Gidget’s Sandwich Shack at the corner of 7th and Ohio, next door to the Littlest Skyscraper.

While I don’t get downtown for lunch very often, when I do, Gidget’s is at the top of my list. Sandwiches, soups, and their freshly fried and hand made potato chips make Gidget’s a popular spot for lunch. And what makes a better dessert than a delicious gourmet coffee fixed while you wait?

Because the bulk of their clientele is made up of people working in the downtown Wichita Falls area, both Espressos and Gidget’s have a much more limited schedule than the national chains, usually from about 8:00 am to 2:00 or 2:30 pm, but they make up for it with a unique flavor that chains simply cannot match.

So there you have it, my short list of where to go for the best coffee in Wichita Falls. If I missed your favorite, be sure to leave a post below to let everyone know where they can meet you for some great coffee and interesting conversation.
