Big-D&Bubba

Big D & Bubba

About Big D: I started in radio when I was 14 years old at a 1000-watt Christian radio station in Cookeville, Tenn. By the age of 17, I hosted my first talk show, which led me to doing mornings on an oldies station in the same city. My first country radio experience was when I was 19 in Billings, Montana, where I fell in love with the country lifestyle. I also met my wife Kathy in Billings. We have two sons, Zak and Gunner. Something that you may be surprised to learn; In high school I was an Exchange Student, and spent time in Russia...before the wall fell....when it was still Communist! Talk about crazy! Seeing that, and the way that the poor people of Russia lived and suffered under that regime really helps solidify my love for the Good 'Ol USA. I am also an Instrument Rated Private Airplane Pilot, and a big aviation buff, you can usually find me tinkering around my hangar messing with the plane when I'm not on the radio. About Bubba: I was 14 years old when I became a disc jockey at the local radio station in my hometown of Houma, La. Ever the nomad at heart, I went on to use radio to travel the world and worked at stations in places such as Guam and Tokyo. While working in those cities, . More »

I've been living in Wichita Falls since the summer of 1981 and it's true, "Life begins in Texas and everything before don't count"!  As an avid fan of acoustic guitars, it's no surprise to find me perfectly at home with the Country music we play on Lonestar 102.3.  You can often hear me singing (?) along with the songs on the radio as I wander around the studios and offices. Even though I wasn't born here, Wichita Falls has truly become my home and I love to get out and experience what the city has to offer whenever I get a chance.  From events like Falls Fest and City Lights to the Hotter N Hell hundred there is always something exciting going on. Dave was not born in Texas...but like everyone else who wasn't, he got here as quick as he could.  Dave is told quite often he "married up" to his beautiful wife Tracy... and he agrees.  Dave and Tracy have 2 adorable children, Sarah and Tyler.  They are members of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls.  Some of Dave's favorite places in Wichita Falls include: Lucy Park, The Falls, Mazzios, Parkway Grill, Los Tres Amigos and the Texas Roadhouse.  He's a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan and loves college football in general. I was born here in Wichita Falls, but I didn't grow up here. Instead, I spent most of my youth in the vast, freezing tundra that is North Dakota. I love the north, but I'll take Texas winters over -35 any day. I did radio for a while in North Dakota, but none of the stations there were as awesome as those in Texas. I have a son who has grown up too fast and is about to graduate high school, and a husband who has shared with me his love of pinball machines and Battlestar Galactica. More »

Kix Brooks

Born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, Kix Brooks was influenced by a variety of regional musical styles ranging from Cajun to blues to jazz to country.

Brooks began performing at age 12, then continued performing in clubs and at other venues throughout high school.  He also began writing songs at that time.  Eventually he landed in Nashville, where he joined Tree Publishing Company.  Shortly thereafter, artists like the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Conlee and Highway 101 all scored #1’s with Brooks’ songs.

In 1990 Brooks teamed with Ronnie Dunn to form Brooks & Dunn, who are the highest selling duo in the history of country music.  They have sold more than 30 million records, won more than 75 major industry awards, had 23 #1 hits, and set a new record with their 41st top 10 single, breaking a tie with Alabama as the duo or group with the most Top 10 country singles in the 19-year history of Nielsen BDS-monitored airplay.

Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Brooks ventured into the world of radio in 2006 when he took over the hosting reins of the long-running syndicated radio program, American Country Countdown.  Having recently notched his fourth year in that chair, Brooks reflected on his reason for joining ACC as host, “I really enjoy what I do for a living. I love this business. I l

I talk on the radio, play piano, hike/camp as much as possible, turn into a huge weather nerd when it storms, and most of all, I think too much. I was born and raised in Wichita Falls with all of my family originally being from Southern Oklahoma (I'm usually not ashamed to admit it.) I enjoy helping out community groups and meeting new folks, so feel free to Facebook or chime in on the show anytime and let me know what's going on around Wichita Falls. . More »

Mike Hendren

After having done just about every job under the sun (and some in total darkness, but that’s another story) Mike decided back in 2001 that it was time to ‘get it out of his system’ and take a shot at the radio biz. It had been on his mind for a long, long time, but it wasn’t until the summer of 2001 that he finally took the chance and well, here we are today. Mike is a native Texan and he and his family are proud to call Wichita Falls home. More »
