You see them cruising around town from one job to the next or just parked on the side of the road hoping to catch your eye as you cruise around town.  Our local Wichita Falls businesses don’t spend thousands of dollars wrapping their vehicles with their logos and designs just for fun, they do it to be recognized and remembered.  So we’ve decided to help them out with a little bit of free promotion, while pitting them up against each other in a little friendly competition at the same time.

The company whose car gets the most votes at the end of the contest will win a $500 *advertising package to use on any Townsquare Media stations in Wichita Falls AND they’ll also get a delicious fruit bouquet from Edible Arrangements values at $75!

Every now and then a band comes through Wichita Falls that you just KNOW is destined for really big things. Wheeler Brothers is one of those bands.

Fresh from a great time at the 2012 SXSW in Austin where they won BEST NEW BAND and BEST ROOTS ROCK in the Austin Music Awards, and riding the wave of their highly acclaimed 2011 CD release Portraits, Wheeler Brothers will hit the Iron Horse Pub stage this Friday evening.

Made up of brothers Nolan (guitar/piano/vocals), Tyler (bass) and Patrick Wheeler (drums), along with Danny Matthews (guitar/vocals) and A.J. Molyneaux (lap steel/guitar/vocals),  Wheeler Brothers combines a modern, central Texas, indie vibe with traditional Texas folk for a smooth, fun sound that’s all their own.

Their calendar has them playing shows from Texas to California and everywhere in between. They were even on Last Call with Carson Daily recently. Don’t miss them this Friday evening at the Iron Horse Pub. Louis Lewis will be the opening act.

Cat Cam

Have you ever wondered what your cat does when you leave it outside all day?  Well, a researcher at the University of Georgia strapped three-ounce cameras to the collars of 60 cats, and it turns out cats get in all kinds of trouble.

A few of the most-common activities were stalking prey, and climbing on roofs.  But one woman found out her cat had been exploring the local sewer system, which is pretty gross if you let your cat sleep with you.

The researcher behind it says she wants people to know how dangerous it is to let your cat outside, and hopes it’ll convince people to keep their cats indoors.  She said 85% of the cats engaged in at least one, “risk behavior” each week.

Personally, I’m a dog person. Strapping cameras to my two Great Danes would probably turn out to be pretty boring. Every time I look outside they are either passed out in the shade, digging a hole, or just drooling on each other – but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

A women in Superior, Wis. not only offer to sell off her ex-husband and his junk, but she also tagged a GMC Yukon with lots of bright graffiti and bad words. There’s also a flat tire on the vehicle. Warning: the photos have some expletive words in them and are NSFW. But they sure are funny, as she calls him out for being a “cheater,” “a douche” and a “f—er.” We almost feel sorry for the car.

Not since Linda Barrett got revenge on Mike Damone and his (what-looked-like-a-Gremlin) car in ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High’ for impregnating her BFF Stacy by spraypainting “prick” on the door have we had such a hearty laugh at a scorned woman expressing her rage and wrath on a vehicle. You’ve never…go watch it right now. We’ll wait.

Local radio station MIX108 and its quick snapping photog captured the images, including ones of the cops arriving on the scene around 4PM to inspect the debris. There was also a pile of ash on site, which would indicate that the angry woman set her ex’s things on fire and that which she didn’t burn, she left strewn in a heap.

The truck was removed about an hour later, but his stuff remained on the lawn. Everyone has to air their dirty laundry once in a while and express their rage, but this mess makes the property values plummet!

Nope, we can’t stop humming that Carrie Underwood song either.

If you aren’t a fan of Miranda Lambert, try reading her latest interview in Self Magazine. The bold country songstress lets loose with her interviewer, dishing about her body issues (or lack therof), her marriage to Blake Shelton and what it’s like to live on the road. This one is a must-read not just for country music fans, but for anyone who has struggled with their self image in the past.

Lambert is on the cover of the issue, and inside, dishes on everything from healthy eating, to exercise, to her ideal body size in a list dubbed 15 Things I’ll Never Apologize For.

“I don’t care about being stick-thin. I don’t want stuff to jiggle. Really skinny actresses make me hungry,” Lambert admits. “I see them and think, Honey, you need to eat! I’m lucky I don’t have to live like that. I feel my best when I’m a toned, not flabby, size 8. Women come up to me and say, ‘You’re beautiful and confident,’ and that makes me feel I can be, too.”

Of course, the ‘White Liar’ hitmaker isn’t only getting an ego boost from her fans. In the past, Lambert has been at the mercy of media scrutiny involving her sometimes fluctuating weight. When looking at old pictures of herself, Lambert probed her husband for answers about her body. “I asked Blake, ‘Dude, why didn’t you tell me I got fat?’” she spills. “He said, ‘That would go over like a lead balloon. It’s not my job to tell you you’re fat. It’s my job to tell you’re beautiful.’”

Like many people, Lambert says she “absolutely hates exercise,” but that she does it anyway to appease her trainer. “I love it afterward, of course,” she reveals. “But my trainer is so nice, I want to do push-ups to please him!”

Because she’s on stage night after night, she does get a pretty good workout rocking her guitar and prancing around the arena — but Mrs. Shelton watches what she eats, too, and has a chicken salad waiting for her after her action-packed shows. All that rocking out is bound to make a body tired, but the country songstress doesn’t give into the temptation to eat a greasy burger and fries.

“I always scarf down food after a show. But now, instead of eating a burger, I’ll have a grilled-chicken salad waiting for me,” she says. “And except for almonds and bananas, I don’t keep snacks on the bus. I don’t want Cheetos anywhere around me.”

But while the singer does what she can to stay fit, she’s not about to give up the things she truly loves in life. “I won’t give up what I enjoy to look perfect. I want to find a happy medium between feeling good about my body and still having a beer and some barbecue.”

She adds, “I drink Bacardi. My trainer, Bill, approves. I mean, he’d rather me not drink, but that’s not an option.”

So what’s Lambert’s favorite part of her body? Her butt. “I don’t mind having a big butt,” she says. “I actually like that about myself.” We can’t help but wonder if Blake agrees!

When he’s on, few vocalists commit to an emotion quite like Rascal Flatts‘ Gary LeVox. The singer will recklessly throw himself into love, heartbreak or desperation. ‘Come Wake Me Up,’ the new single from ‘Changed,’ is another fine example of how this trio continues to work at a level few country artists are aware of.

The ballad begins quietly, with a soft piano and LeVox singing at little more than a whisper. Even the first chorus is muted in comparison to the song’s cathartic close. “Turn the TV up loud just to drown out your voice, but I can’t forget / Now I’m all out of ideas and baby I’m down to my last cigarette,” he sings to begin the second verse. “Yeah, you’re probably asleep deep inside of your dreams / While I’m sitting here crying and trying to see / Yeah, wherever you are baby / Now I am sure you moved on and aren’t thinking twice about me and you tonight.”

A perfect Rascal Flatts song is easy to fall into, but not so easy that it relies on banal metaphors or country cliches. ‘Come Wake Me Up’ is certainly a familiar story, but it’s an original emotion and voice that will immediately connect with fans, especially those going through a difficult breakup. The trio simply soars above the mini-orchestra that marks the climax. It takes a few deep breathes to come down from this drama.

“Tonight your memory burns like a fire / With everyone it grows higher and higher / And I can’t get over it, I just can’t put out this love / I just sit in these flames and pray that you’ll come back / Close my eyes tightly, hold on and hope that I’m dreaming / Come wake me up,” they harmonize during each chorus. The performance overflows with sincerity.

‘Come Wake Me Up’ is easily the Flatts’ best ballad since ‘Here Comes Goodbye.’ It’s slightly less effective than ‘What Hurts the Most’ — a song that could be considered their career song — and is among the highlights on ‘Changed.’

Very few who’ve seen the controversial cover of this week’s issue of Time Magazine walk away without an opinion, and country star Sara Evans is no different. She is one of two female vocalists outraged by the photo, which shows a three-year-old boy standing on a chair and breastfeeding from his mother.

“The Time Mag cover is ridiculous! What is wrong with people? My son saw that in a doc office!” Evans tweeted Monday morning. Singer Sarah Buxton quickly replied, echoeing that she shares the ‘A Little Bit Stronger’ singer’s sentiment. “@saraevansmusic I could not agree more. Despicable,” Buxton said.

The issue is focused on attachment parenting, a form of child-rearing that involves breastfeeding to an older age and co-sleeping. While this style is considered controversial and regularly sparks debate, it’s the picture of the 26-year-old mother and her son that has passers-by upset.

The age of the little boy is not what’s bothersome to some — it’s the argument that the magazine is showboating the family simply to boost sales and get people talking. Obviously, it worked. Others, who perhaps prefer a less attached parenting style, have expressed via various outlets on the web that they find the photo “gross” in general.

As for Evans, she seemed to be concerned that the picture is simply not family appropriate. The singer lives with husband Jay Barker and has seven children — three of her own and four from Barker’s previous relationship.

In the frantic world of financial news reporting, it’s best to be ready for whatever comes your way. Be it a market crash, or a news camera in your face when you least expect it. Because that’s what happened to Bloomberg’s Sara Eisen who was caught on camera fixing her skirt during a pan through the newsroom. 

The video starts with a news presenter cutting to the markets’ desk where analyst Sheila Dharmarajan is barely audible due to some technical issues. So to save (her) face, the camera moves to Eisen, who unfortunately was caught off guard in a far more embarrassing situation.

Bloomberg pulled the copyright card pretty quickly to get the YouTube video of the embarrassing incident pulled, but we found  a GIF image of the video clip:

Many on the internet are now speculating why a professional like Eisen was caught off guard. Whatever the reason, Eisen at least knew what to say to keep the show going. Still, that’s another reporter blunder for the “news bloopers” collection.

Everybody deserves a good laugh, right? Luckily, we have just the thing to do the trick! Thursday night (May 10), Carrie Underwood teamed up with late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel to create a spoof of her music video for ‘Before He Cheats.’ Check out their new clip of ‘Before He Freaks’ to increase the laugh factor in your day.

The ‘Good Girl’ hitmaker stopped by ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ on Thursday night (May 10) to take the stage for an outdoor concert. In addition to putting on a bang-up performance for her fans, Kimmel and Underwood surprised viewers with a fun little video project they created.

In the video spoof of ‘Before He Cheats,’ Kimmel plays a guy who goes out for karaoke and to drink margaritas, then reaches into his fanny pack (yes, he was wearing a red fanny pack!) to get the keys to his truck and go home. But when he walks out of the bar and approaches his 4×4, what does he see? A strange girl he’s never seen before (Underwood), who is beating his vehicle to bits with a baseball bat. “Next time you should think before you freak,” he sings to the award-winning songstress.

In the clip, the ‘Good Girl’ hitmaker tries to apologize for mixing up Kimmel’s truck with her boyfriend’s, but the damage is done. You’ll have to watch the video to find out what happens next.

The spoof is also filled with hilarious props, like a gigantic mustache on the front of Kimmel’s truck, a James Van Der Beek poster and a Hello Kitty doll. And we already mentioned the red fanny pack. From the looks of it, Underwood hasn’t let her critical success get in the way of her sense of humor.

How do you top Time’s cover featuring a mother breastfeeding her fully-grown child? Call Obama “gay” and give him a rainbow-colored halo.

Fresh off his groundbreaking decree that he supports gay marriage, which trumped Joe Biden’s earlier pro-gay union statement, Barack Obama now graces the cover of Newsweek to promote Andrew Sullivan’s profile piece titled, “The First Gay President.”

Newsweek first released the controversial image on the morning of Mother’s Day via Twitter. There was no doubt it was their way of saying, “We see your breastfeeding, and we raise you a rainbow halo.”

The issue doesn’t hit newsstands until May 21st, but it’s already causing quite the commotion. So far, there’s no official response from The White House, but here are just a few of the responses from Twitter.

Posting a Facebook update and making sure it gets the maximum exposure could soon be as simple as opening your wallet, if you can believe it. The social media giant is rolling out a new program that will allow its members to pay a small fee to highlight or promote their posts.

A Facebook spokesperson said the “pay to promote” system, which ensures status updates are more visible to a member’s Facebook friends, is currently being tested in New Zealand to gauge user interest. Different highlighting methods are used depending on how much someone pays, with the maximum fee set at $2.

Ian Maude, internet analyst at Enders Analysis, said that Facebook’s “overall revenue has grown much more quickly than their audience,” but since there’s been a recent slowdown, the company is now experimenting with new income models.

“We’re going to see a lot more ideas like this where they are testing out different ways to try to make money,” he added.

In other words, you may be seeing a lot more of photos of your Facebook friends’ kids than you ever cared to.

Wade Bowen‘s heart of gold was in full force earlier this month when he held his 14th Annual Wade Bowen Classic concert and golf tournament in his hometown of Waco, Texas. The event, which benefits the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children, raised $150,000 over the course of a weekend.

Bowen and his friends — including Stoney LaRue, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Casey James, Charlie Robison, Randy Rogers, Reckless Kelly, Eric Paslay, Dustin Lynch and Charlie Worsham — helped rack up a record-breaking amount for the special cause. Following the concert that drew in 3,000 fans to Indian Springs Park on May 6 and 7, the golf tournament was underway and 22 golfers hit the green, Bowen included.

And for those fans who think they have to wait another year to be entertained by their favorite singer, think again. Bowen will soon be releasing a brand new 10-song album titled ‘The Given,’ which will be available through digital retailers and select music stores on May 29. Pre-orders for the album are available now by visiting the Texan singer’s official website.

The second single from Kenny Chesney‘s upcoming ‘Welcome to the Fishbowl’ album finds the singer returning to his old blue chair in an effort to pour his soul into a six-chord cask. It’s not clear yet if Chesney wrote ‘Come Over,’ but like many of his best ballads, this cut feels very, very personal.

Yet somehow, the story is open enough to allow his fans to paint the faces from their past over the woman Chesney is singing about. He is yearning for yesterday’s love and doing his best to get her back.

The chorus goes:

“I told you I wouldn’t call / I told you I wouldn’t care / But baby climbing the walls gets me nowhere / I don’t think that I can take this bed getting any colder / Come over, come over, come over, come over, come over.”

‘Come Over’ is in the same style as ‘You and Tequila,’ a song that earned the singer many award nominations. However, it’s not as immediately effective. To be fair, the 2011 hit took a few dozen listens to really soak in. The buzz from both songs is slower and longer-lasting than tequila, perhaps a fine Merlot would be a better metaphor.

That said, it’s difficult to get excited for a song that is so stylistically similar to ones Chesney has cut on recent albums. For years, he was the country rocker before becoming the lazy beach guy — and more recently — the contemplative poet. Kudos to the superstar for reinventing himself over and over again, but ‘Come Over’ sounds like a song that comes just prior to the next reinvention.

“You can say you’re done the way you always do / it’s easier to lie to me than to yourself / Forget about your friends, you know they’re gonna say / We’re bad for each other but we ain’t good for anyone else,” Chesney sings in the second verse.

Lyrically, the songwriters show power in efficiency, yet the singer never really conveys the physical need for this woman that the repetition begs for. It offers a muted climax before fading away with a parade of “Come over, come over, come over, come over, come overs.” This is a good song, but not his best in recent years. Perhaps it is indeed a sign of great things to come, however.
