Geraldo Rivera Says Black People Who Wear Hoodies Are Asking to Be Shot [VIDEOS]

By now you've probably all heard about Trayvon Martin. He's the 17-year-old African-American kid who was shot and killed in Sanford, Florida by a neighborhood watch volunteer last month.

Trayvon wasn't doing anything more than returning from a 7-11 run with candy and iced tea, but the shooter, George Zimmerman, claims he opened fire in self-defense. He still hasn't been arrested, by the way.

It's still not clear if his story holds any water, but one detail from the case has caused a national debate: Trayvon was wearing a HOODIE.

Fox News spokes-mustache Geraldo Rivera stoked the fires on Friday by saying,

"I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was."

He also urged parents of black and Latino children not to let their kids wear hoodies.

Geraldo went on about the 'Dangers' of Hoodies on "The O'Reilly Factor" Friday night:

Since then, Rivera has posted several Tweets defending his position, like this one:

"It hurts to be assailed, but anger doesn't change reality. A minority kid in a hoodie in a hood not his own is a 911 call waiting to happen."

There's been a lot of celebrity Tweeting about Trayvon's case, and much of it is hoodie-centric.

For instance, Diddy Tweeted,

"I didn't know wearing a hoodie made me a target," along with a photo of himself wearing a hoodie.

And the Miami Heat wore their hoodies in support, too.

Questlove from the Roots said,

"Sorry @GeraldoRivera, what I gotta stroll around rocking a tux 24-7 so I can put others who are ignorant at ease? You're basically saying there is a dress code for black & latin youth to put others at ease."

Will Ferrell didn't mention hoodies, but his tweet was brilliant nonetheless,
