When planning a wedding, even the most inexpensive of bashes will set you back a few bucks. The dress alone is oftentimes between $600-$10,000, which is crazy when you think about it.

Cheap Chic Weddings has a solution to the wedding dress problem! They’re soon having their 7th annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest. Yes, you read that correctly. Remember all those prom dresses made of duct tape? This takes it in a whole other direction.

Every spring, the wedding website holds a contest to see who can make the best-looking bridal-wear out of just a few simple tools: tape, glue and, most importantly, toilet paper. Contestants can sew the toilet tissue together with a needle and thread, but that's the extent of the materials allowed.

Contestants are given 6 weeks to complete their gowns and submit photos, then judges make their selection and “flush out” a winner. The first place winner receives $1,000, while second and third place win $500 and $250, respectively.

It leads me to wonder, how much TP is used in a dress?

"I've seen someone use only four rolls for their dress and another contestant use 40. It really varies depending on the design and thickness of the dress. Some people really pack the toilet paper on, and others prefer using less toilet paper and reinforcing the pieces with a lot of glue or tape," explained Susan Bain. "Everyone has a different strategy."

Oh, and the dress must be able to actually be worn and taken on and off without falling apart.

"We want to see the dress worn by a model, especially when we get down to the finals. Headpieces like veils or hats are also a plus," Bain said.

It amazes me that this is a serious contest, but seeing the photos is even more amazing. These dresses are actually beautiful!

Regardless, I don't think I would try my hand at a toilet paper dress of any kind. What happens when someone "bumps" into you and spills their drink? Would the dress suffer from a wardrobe malfunction? What about the possible tear when you bend over to pick something up? A lot of scenarios come to mind, none of which look promising.
